Highlights

  • ACEN added a ₱3.5 billion ING loan to its funding base, giving it more capacity for its renewable build-out without tapping shareholders.
  • El Niño is tightening Philippine power supply and supporting spot prices, even as ACEN itself warns that the country's clean-energy expansion risks oversupply.
  • Vini Research Desk rates ACEN a Buy, ~55% upside to our ₱4.00 fair value.

The Setup

ACEN has signed a ₱3.5 billion loan with ING, adding to the funding available for its generation pipeline. Separately, management cautioned that the pace of Philippine clean-energy additions risks overshooting demand. The near-term market is moving the other way, with El Niño constraining supply and pushing up spot prices. Our momentum read on ACEN is Neutral.

Our Read

The decision-relevant point is that ACEN has secured fresh debt while spot prices are firm. That lets it earn more from uncontracted capacity through the dry-season months without issuing equity to fund growth. At a ₱102.3 billion market cap, the stock prices in the oversupply risk but gives little credit for spot-driven earnings upside or for the funding already in hand. A visible lift in quarterly merchant revenue would force the market to reprice that gap.

Vini Research Desk rates ACEN a Buy, seeing about 55% upside to our fair value of ₱4.00. Debt-funded capacity, sold into a tight spot market, supports future capital appreciation for ACEN, which benefits holders of the Smart Momentum Quant Plan.
